J D Rimmer & Sons are a 4th Generation farming family who have been based at Moss Side Farm for 91 years. William Rimmer started out by renting the farm growing a variety of crops ranging from potatoes to cauliflowers with the addition of rearing cattle.
In 1953 William Rimmer bought the farm which Joseph Rimmer then took over in later years.
Approximately 22 years ago, current directors David and Thomas Rimmer took over the family business.
Around 20 years ago the company was growing, washing and packing a range of fresh produce, which slowly faded out to concentrate on carrots and potatoes.
12 years ago, William Rimmer, later followed by Philip and Eleanor Rimmer commenced fulltime employment within the family firm. At this point in time J D Rimmer & sons washed and packed potatoes and carrots seasonally throughout the Autumn and Winter months.
By 2012, following a couple of difficult years in the wholesale and foodservice markets, we at J&D Rimmer and sons, no longer saw it viable to seasonally wash and pack potatoes and carrots due to customers requiring a 12 month continual flow of produce.
The decision was then made to stop growing and packing carrots and predominately focus on growing, washing and packing potatoes.
Today we are now farming nearly 400 acres of potatoes and packing onwards of 30,000 tons.
We can pack specifically to order, e.g. 15kg bakers in bags, 12.5kg bakers in bags. 5kg salad potatoes, 1kg salad potatoes.
